बीप-बीप-धड़ाम! रात को आरव के कमरे में अजीब सी आवाज़ आई। आरव ने देखा, टीको अपने खोल पर तीन बार खटखटा रहा था। टक टक टक! खोल एक छोटे दरवाज़े की तरह खुल गया। टीको हँसकर बोला, “टक टक टक, चलो चलें!” दोनों अंदर कूदे, और फुर्र! सामने एक चमकता हुआ रोबोट मैदान था। चाँदी जैसे रोबोट इधर-उधर भाग रहे थे। पर वे सब इतने घबराए हुए क्यों थे?

Beep-beep-boom! Late at night, a funny noise came from Aarav's room. He looked over and saw Tiko tapping on his shell three times. Tok tok tok! The shell opened like a little door. Tiko giggled, "Tok tok tok, let's go!" They both jumped inside, and whoosh! In front of them was a shiny robot field. Silver robots were running here and there. But why did they all look so worried?

रोबोटों के कप्तान का नाम बल्लू था। उसका सिर गोल था और आँखें नीली बत्ती जैसी चमकती थीं। वह दौड़कर आया, “आरव, हमारा बल्ला कड़ाक से टूट गया! आज बड़ा मैच है, और कारखाना बंद है। अब खेलें कैसे?” आरव तो क्रिकेट का पक्का दीवाना था। ज़मीन पर बल्ले के दो टुकड़े पड़े थे, एक लंबा और एक छोटा। आरव ने सोचा, “मैं मैच शुरू करवाऊँगा!” तभी उसे कुछ याद आया।

The robots' captain was called Ballu. He had a round head and eyes that glowed like blue lights. He came running up. "Aarav, our bat broke with a crack! There is a big match today, and the factory is closed. How can we play now?" Aarav loved cricket more than anything. Two pieces of the bat lay on the ground, one long and one short. Aarav thought, "I will get this match started!" Then he remembered something.

आरव को अपनी गली याद आई, जहाँ बच्चे गिल्ली डंडा खेलते हैं। उसने लंबा टुकड़ा उठाया, “यह बन गया डंडा!” छोटे टुकड़े के दोनों सिरे नुकीले थे। “और यह हमारी गिल्ली!” उसने गिल्ली ज़मीन पर रखी और डंडे से टक! गिल्ली फुर्र से हवा में उड़ी। सब रोबोट चिल्लाए, “वाह!” तभी गिल्ली नीचे आई और टन्न! सीधे टीको के सिर पर! टीको झट से खोल में छिप गया, “मैं ठीक हूँ!” अंदर से आवाज़ आई।

Aarav remembered his street at home, where kids play gilli danda, a game where you hit a small wooden stick with a big stick. He picked up the long piece. "This is our danda!" The short piece had two pointy ends. "And this is our gilli!" He set the gilli on the ground and hit it with the danda. Tak! The gilli zoomed up into the air. All the robots shouted, "Wow!" Then the gilli came down and tunn! Right on Tiko's head! Tiko quickly hid in his shell. "I'm okay!" said a little voice from inside.

बल्लू ने डंडा पकड़ा। उसकी आँखों में अंक नाचने लगे। “हिसाब लगा रहा हूँ... हवा, कोण, गिल्ली की रफ़्तार...” बीप-बीप-बीप! बल्लू हिसाब ही लगाता रहा, और गिल्ली ज़मीन पर चुपचाप पड़ी रही। दूसरे रोबोट ने भी यही किया। फिर टीको बोला, “टक टक टक, चलो चलें!” और डंडा घुमाया। पर डंडा नहीं, वह खुद गोल-गोल घूम गया, “अरे अरे अरे!” तभी भोंपू बजा, पूँऽऽ! मैच में बस पाँच मिनट बाकी थे!

Ballu took the danda. Numbers began to dance in his eyes. "I am working it out... the wind, the angle, the speed of the gilli..." Beep-beep-beep! Ballu kept on calculating, and the gilli just lay quietly on the ground. Another robot did the same thing. Then Tiko said, "Tok tok tok, let's go!" and swung the danda. But the danda did not move. He spun round and round himself. "Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Just then the horn went, pooo! Only five minutes were left in the match!

आरव ने गहरी साँस ली। “बल्लू, हिसाब बंद करो! बस गिल्ली को देखो और ज़ोर से मारो, जैसे हम गली में मारते हैं!” बल्लू ने अपनी बत्तियाँ बंद कीं और टक! गिल्ली आसमान में उड़ी, ऊँची घंटी से टकराई, टन्न टन्न! फिर तारे की तरह चमककर नीचे आई। आरव दौड़ा और कैच पकड़ लिया, “आउट!” सब रोबोट नाचने लगे। बल्लू बोला, “इस साल का कप गिल्ली डंडा का होगा!” फिर उसने आरव को कुछ ख़ास दिया।

Aarav took a deep breath. "Ballu, stop calculating! Just look at the gilli and hit it hard, like we do on our street!" Ballu switched off his lights and tak! The gilli flew up into the sky, hit the tall bell, tunn tunn! Then it came down glowing like a star. Aarav ran and caught it. "Out!" All the robots started dancing. Ballu said, "This year's cup will be for gilli danda!" Then he gave Aarav something special.

बल्लू ने गिल्ली और डंडा आरव को दे दिए। “यह तुम्हारे लिए, गली के चैंपियन!” टीको ने फिर तीन बार खटखटाया, टक टक टक, और झट से आरव अपने बिस्तर पर था। टीको पैरों के पास अपने खोल में गोल होकर सो गया। आरव ने तकिए के पास गिल्ली डंडा रखा। कल वह मम्मी, पापा और सबको खेलना सिखाएगा! उसने आँखें बंद कीं और धीरे से बोला, “टक टक टक, शुभ रात, टीको!”

Ballu gave the gilli and the danda to Aarav. "This is for you, champion of the street!" Tiko tapped three times again, tok tok tok, and in a blink Aarav was back in his bed. Tiko curled up in his shell by Aarav's feet and fell asleep. Aarav put the gilli danda beside his pillow. Tomorrow he would teach Mum, Dad and everyone how to play! He closed his eyes and whispered, "Tok tok tok, good night, Tiko!"
